Revamped vintage ....

Flea Market finds

Who does not like to see a hazy, just before dawn morning, hot cup of coffee in hand and heart beating quickly for anticipation of what the day will bring.

One of my favorite hobbies is to hunt for ...... things!

I have driven, walked, and flown to seek the old, the made no more and the discarded junk that is someone elses treasure.A transformation of a flea market find into a modern day treasure is one of the most exciting types of collecting.

Revamping the vintage into a modern day treasure is not only a coveted type of collecting, but collecting that takes time and cannot be accomplished in a week or two. For me, the hunt is the best part of the collecting, the anticipation of not knowing what you may find.

I am a collector ......

One of my first collections was this desk; a fruit wood colored desk with many scratches and nicks found at a antique market. Beneath the desk is a zebra hide ottoman with nailhead trim found on a trip to Philadelphia. The hide was an ebay find, upholstered by Moi, and added extra cushions to "plump" the ottoman. My most recent find, an inscribed handpainted gourd from Kenya, another early morning find. Also, a collector of black and tan as well as smoking staffordshire dog jars.

A closer look at another collection, the horn ( anything)...... magnifying glass, picture frame and pencil cups.
The roses were also a find, just the right blend of yellow and orange. Hotel silver tray from Nell Hill's original store location, and an old French paperweight with a dog pulling a cart of flowers.

Canes; also an obsession, this black with white tip was a recent find on a client buying trip. Inside the cylander, there are three test tubes for carrying contraband in the victorian era. Interesting huh? My son got a kick out of that one. And the wire tall basket was also a flea market find, a little industrial feel in a refined entryway.

These two pillows were also a recent find; I ran out of suitcase room, so remember that you can always ship home before you arrive! I took full advantage this time, sending two large boxes on before I arrived. These were so great, ABC find, but well worth it. They will reside at the foot of the bed in a caned settee that is awaiting a recovering facelift.

How about you? Favorite all time find?

What do you collect?

There are so many things out there; I think as a rule you are personally drawn to things;

Why?

I am not sure, but I think things speak to me;
 and of course they are saying "take me home"!

I love your table. I was wondering what the glass container with the cross on top is considered? Do you remember where you got it? It is one of the nicest thins I have ever seen. Thanks, MB

Sure Mary Beth;
It is a piece from Jan Barboglio I found it at TA Lorton, Iknow there are web sites and she is carried at Neiman Marcus.
It is a candy jar for me or could be used for many other uses!
