The blood bath.....
Befitting for a "Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary" inspired month.
Recently seeing the Devil wears Prada on the tele as I passed by had me thinking of the awesome bar and the wonderful mural behind it!
The signature drink at the New York City St. Regis Hotel's King Cole Bar.
As if October was not a month full of many wonderful things to celebrate, yet another is the 76th year anniversary of the iconic "Bloody Mary" formerly introduced but renamed after first being addressed as the red snapper. The fact that it came over from Harry's bar in Paris makes the story even more delicious. This drink makes me feel like fall; pumpkins, a little celedon green, some lush white pumpkins and a dash of chocolate.
If you might, on a chilly night find yourself between 55th street and 5th avenue do stop in and have a little bit of the spirit's. As you sip and saunter have a look at the infamous Maxfield Parrish mural of the Old King Cole which hangs behind the bar. A favorite of many (mine included), what a seasonally appropriate colored and designed work of art.
The colors are really muted and earthy. Love the circular bar shape, the surround of stools covered in great looking pear colored fabric. This color scheme seems very earthy, Terra cotta, October sky and lovely turning leaves with fall foliage colors.
The Alan Ducasse bar at the Regis, the design is the Rockwell Group. The bar stools are pulled up to the amoeba like gold leafed bar with what looks like golden bubbles illuminated to the left. I think public spaces are wonderful ways to incorporate different elements into your private space.
The ceiling of the St. Regis Hotel. It is not secret that a beautifully painted ceiling does light up a space, this ceiling is no exception. The heavy carved moldings and highly gilt woodwork is incredible and stoic. Look up and around great design is all around you need only to look up!
You can find inspiration even in the most public of spaces.
