Harvest moon and a spooky project

Harvest moon

The other evening was a bit busy. After a day of projects and plans the evening was not over by any means.
An evening of hauling a little bit of Halloween hay was upon us.
Normally we use round bales of hay for the livestock, but we also keep some fall heifers for weaning and smaller square bales of hay are easier to use and also give the horses from time to time.
So, there we were hauling around 100 bales to the barn from the meadow, about an hour or so round trip.
In the end, everything was done and the big payoff was seeing a perfect harvest sunset as the sun went down.

Sunset as we were leaving the ranch.

A little load of hay for the barn. Mr. R was right on for securing the pile of cargo.

I love the smell and sight of rows of hay.

Of course a stop by the paddock is a must,
complete with a jacket full of apple treats for my favorite steed.

Though he tolerates them, the longhorns are competition for his treats!

A spooky project for Halloween.

A custom wreath for the spooks and goblins!

Simple materials, a plastic long table cloth.

Cut the tablecloth in long strips and in about half an inch in width. Then take the strips and pull them every inch or so but be careful not to pull too tightly or it will break. The result is a tie dyed looking strip that is ombre stripe colored. A really interesting looking color and texture for the wreath.

A closer view of the wreath. The ribbon is really fitting, the sides of the black ribbon is almost identical to the texture of the strips on the wreath. A double layered ribbon with a chocolate smaller ribbon layered over top the black ribbon. A french cut edge on the extra ends of the tied knot.
The Styrofoam circle was a dollar store find that was spray painted black.

Another view from a fence row as we leave the paddock.

In other news, many of you have emailed me asking about Derby and his recovery. We are 4 weeks out and he is trying to walk with out any support. We started water therapy last week, Derby is doing well and moving right along.

Derby resting after about 20 minutes of swimming in the pool today.

While out and about today, I saw this collar for Derby for Halloween.
He won't be able to dress up, so this will have to do. Glow in the dark too!
